How to Fish Drip Variants & Fishipedia
Rainbow names, same bait, same island — then spin or catalog them.
The rare layer in How to Fish is Drip: a rainbow-named, odd-looking version of a creature you already know how to catch. It uses the same island and the same everyday lure as the normal form. There is no separate Golden / Albino / Phantom table in the official notes, and no weather chart you must wait on. If a video calls a fish “shiny,” they mean Drip.
Kill the Drip so the encyclopedia counts it. The Drip achievement is the first rainbow kill. Fishipedia is all of them. Patch 1.0.5 fixed a bug that required every Drip plus one extra before the achievement fired. Collector is the non-Drip bestiary and is a different grind. Do not mix the two checklists.
How to farm Drip
- Go to the creature’s island from Fish Locations.
- Equip the normal bait (Ham, Beginner Lure, Standard Lure, Professional Lure, or Scientific Lure).
- Catch and kill until a rainbow name appears over a familiar model.
- Kill that variant. Hooking it and letting it despawn does not tick Fishipedia.
- Open Tab and confirm the encyclopedia cell.
- Repeat per species. Bosses can have Drip forms when they exist in the book — never spend a story trophy on a machine first.
Co-op helps because more lines hit the pool. Call the rainbow so a teammate does not feed it as generic meat. Patch 1.0.10 can save the body on the ground (64-item cap, creatures prioritized) if you need to finish a fight before carrying it to a Reel of Fortune. Overflow still deletes the extras.
Island 1 Drip is the slowest real money and the worst Reel table (melee only). Farm lighthouse crabs only until you can leave. Forest and later pools are the real Fishipedia hours. Volcano Drip is what you want for Assault Rifle skins — see Skins.
Story bosses versus Drip
Spider Crab, Giant Piranha, Pufferfish, Albatross, and Mutated Bowhead Whale are rare because of bait, not because of a Drip roll. Catch them for the campaign, keep the distinctive trophy, then optionally return later if the encyclopedia still wants a rainbow copy. Patch 1.0.4 nerfed Pufferfish and Whale health. Patch 1.0.10 nerfed Anglerfish. Difficulty from 1.0.9 changes how hard they hit, not the rainbow chance.
Optional mini-bosses (Sunfish, Old Pike, Blue Shark, Tuna, Goblin Shark) still use shop Boss Lures. Their Drip forms, if present, still use those same lures. Tuna is also Albatross bait — do not insert the only Tuna into a cabinet.
What to do with extras
Spare Drip corpses feed the Reel of Fortune for weapon, rod, and boat skins. Island 1 only rolls melee skins, so late-game Drip is more valuable. Gambling cabinets are a different currency — coins or disposable fish, not encyclopedia bodies. Gambling covers roulette; do not confuse it with the reel.
If Fishipedia will not pop, update past Patch 1.0.5, then walk the Tab list for a missing kill. The extra +1 requirement was a bug, not a secret sixth island.
